I suffered from Trigeminal Neuralgia and this is my patient testimonial:

I suffered from Trigeminal Neuralgia for five years before my Microvascular decompression surgery. Symptoms of TN for me was a severe shock like pain along the lower jaw.

How the TN pain began

My pain started from the lower lip to the lower jaw right up to the ear and then spreading to the eye and cheek call on the left side. With this, I couldn’t open my mouth, could not talk, could not eat and whatever the things to be done by mouth, I could not do. I was literally a dumb person lying on the bed in pain. So this was very disturbing and it made me a useless kind of person in daily life. This also made me very disturbed and despondent. Living with the chronic pain of Trigeminal neuralgia can take a toll on one’s mental health.

How my TN diagnosis was made

One day I decided to go to the dentist to get my problem checked up. The dentist tried to trace all my symptoms one by one but could not find any dental cause for the pain that I was having. Then I searched on Google for the diagnosis of the pain that I was having. I came to know that this pain was called Trigeminal Neuralgia.

How I found a doctor to treat my Trigeminal Neuralgia

And fortunately one of the leading neurosurgeons in India called Dr Jaydev Panchwagh, is from Pune and he had posted a video on  YouTube.

This video was on the symptoms, how to diagnose, how to treat and he had shown the operative procedure for treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia. This is called Microvascular Decompression surgery one of the best options for treatment of this condition.

Before the MVD procedure also so there are some other kinds of treatment available which can be done called RFLG or radio frequency ablation.

It means they burn the nerve. But being a young patient, I am 41 years old actually, and because these nerves can regenerate after burning between 1 and 2 years, such short term treatments will not help for longer periods of time.

How I chose my surgeon to treat my Trigeminal neuralgia

After I watched Dr. Panchawagh’s videos and read more about the procedure and confirmed about the success I was thoroughly satisfied with his explanation. I decided to go head with this Microvascular decompression surgery.

Even though the operation is done on the brain, I felt that it was like a minor operation…. it felt like so…and was successfully completed within 3 hours time…when I came out of the operation theatre and I when I became conscious I felt that there was no pain…my thanks to Panchwagh sir and their team.

My advice to other patients suffering from Trigeminal neuralgia

And for other patients suffering from this pain this is what I would like to say…. If they are having pain in the jaw on the cheek or in the ear or near the eyes or forehead, may happen on either side the right or the left, better not to go to the dentist…. It’s better to directly approach the neurologist, and take the suggestion immediately and if necessary get an MRI done….get the diagnosis done correctly and check the status of your nerves and blood vessels.

If there is compression between the nerve and the blood vessel better immediately to come to Dr Panchawagh Sir. I advise not to go anywhere else, because in Andhra Pradesh I have seen less people who can do the surgery and I felt that they are inexperienced. A couple of surgeons themselves also told me that they do not want to go deeply into the surgery.

That’s why I went to Dr. Panchawagh. He has done 1000 + surgeries, and you will be free from this kind of disease.

Actually it is suicidal pain. It is difficult to believe but it is a rare condition it happens to one person in about one lakh on 10 lakhs. I can’t say exact figure. If you have this, better to approach a surgeon and if it is necessary to get operated better to come to Dr. Panchawagh straight away.

Better to go for MVD and not for radiofrequency ablation. I feel that radioablation is not an effective and permanent treatment. Once again, I give my gratitude to entire Dr Panchawagh’s team …Thank you very much.
